Scipione Castle of the Marquises Pallavicino

Scipione Castle of the Marquises Pallavicino

A thousand-year-old castle still inhabited by the Pallavicino family. Guided tours through secret passages and the legendary Devil's Parlour.

The oldest castle in the province of Parma, belonging to the Pallavicino family for over a thousand years and still inhabited by their descendants. Scipione Castle sits above the village of the same name, just 2 km from Salsomaggiore. Guided tours on weekends take about an hour and lead through furnished rooms, secret passages, the loggia with hill views and the famous Salotto del Diavolo (Devil's Parlour) — a room painted with 17th-century frescoes of diabolical scenes, linked to ghost legends. The castle has a special atmosphere in the colder months. Guided tours from March to November, typically on weekends. Check the website for dates.
