Il Casello Winery

A piece of Colli Piacentini history
Cantina Il Casello is a family-run farm that has been producing wine in the Val d'Arda for over seventy years. Founded in the mid-1950s, it has always been managed by the Rigolli family — now in its third generation with the arrival of Sofia — combining traditional techniques with modern technology, following the strict rules of the Consorzio Tutela Vini DOC Colli Piacentini.
The vineyards extend over 18 hectares on the hills of Bacedasco Basso, at about 250 metres above sea level, with rows oriented north-south to maximise sun exposure. The vines are cultivated using the guyot method, traditional to these hills.
The wines
Their production covers the main Piacenza DOC wines. Among the reds: Gutturnio (still, semi-sparkling, superiore and riserva), Barbera and Bonarda. Among the whites: Ortrugo, Sauvignon and Malvasia in both dry and sweet versions. The wines range from young, sparkling ones — perfect for aperitifs and cured meats — to structured, aged ones like the Gutturnio Superiore and Riserva.
Tasting at the winery
Franco and Luigina welcome visitors to their cellar with the warmth typical of these hills. The tasting is an informal, genuine experience: you'll sample wines accompanied by local products — cured meats, Parmigiano Reggiano and other territorial specialities. Just contact them in advance to book your visit.
Tip: if you enjoy full-bodied red wine, ask to taste the Gutturnio Riserva. If you prefer something fresh for aperitivo, the sparkling Ortrugo is the perfect choice.
