QC Terme Salsomaggiore — Palazzo Berzieri

In December 2025, after years of closure and a restoration costing over 44 million euros, the iconic Palazzo Berzieri in Salsomaggiore Terme reopened as QC Terme Salsomaggiore — Spa of Wonders. It is now one of the most important wellness destinations in northern Italy, and it's just 12 km from Podere Montevalle.

The building: an Art Deco masterpiece

The Palazzo Berzieri was inaugurated in 1923, designed by architect Ugo Giusti with interiors decorated by Galileo Chini — the same artist who painted the Royal Palace of Siam. The building is one of Italy's finest examples of Art Deco and Art Nouveau architecture, with extraordinary frescoes, mosaics, stucco work and polychrome decorations that have been meticulously restored to their original splendour. Walking through the grand entrance hall is an experience in itself — it's closer to entering a museum than a spa.

The spa: 9,000 square metres of wellness

The new QC wellness centre spans approximately 9,000 square metres across two connected buildings:

• Palazzo Berzieri (the main building): houses the monumental entrance, saunas, bio-saunas, relaxation rooms, the Bistrot restaurant and massage lounges, all set among the restored original frescoes and decorations
• Ex Centrale Termica (the former Thermal Power Plant): a dramatic, contemporary space with pools on multiple levels, suspended walkways, double-height terraces, skylights and three panoramic rooftop pools with views over the Emilian hills

In total, the centre offers over 40 wellness practices including thermal pools, themed saunas, bio-saunas, sensory paths, relaxation rooms and water experiences. The rooftop infinity pools overlooking the hills are the undisputed highlight.

The entry ticket includes:

• Full access to all pools, saunas, relaxation areas and sensory paths
• Bathrobe, towel and slippers provided
• Aperiterme — the signature QC evening aperitif (daily 17:00–20:00) with sparkling wine and seasonal bites, included in the entry

Practical information

Hours: Sunday to Thursday 9:00–23:00, Friday and Saturday 9:00–24:00. Open every day of the year.

Prices and booking: entry prices vary by day and time slot — check the official website for current rates and to book your visit. Booking is strongly recommended on weekends and holidays, as the centre can reach capacity. A credit card is required as a guarantee at entry.

Important restrictions: entry is not permitted for children under 14 or for pregnant women. This makes QC Terme ideal for couples and adults, but not suitable for family visits with young children.

Parking: multiple parking areas nearby in the centre of Salsomaggiore. QC provides directions on their website.

How to get there: from the Podere, take the road towards Salsomaggiore through Scipione (about 20 minutes by car). The Palazzo Berzieri is in Piazza Lorenzo Berzieri, right in the town centre — you can't miss it.

Our suggestion

Combine a morning visit to Scipione Castle (2 km from Salsomaggiore) with a stroll through the Liberty centre, then enter QC Terme in the early afternoon and stay through to the evening aperitif. It's the perfect full day, especially between October and March when outdoor activities are limited. The spa is equally beautiful in summer — the rooftop pools at sunset are something special.
