Chiaravalle della Colomba Abbey (Alseno)
Cistercian abbey founded in 1136 with a magnificent Gothic cloister nearly nine centuries old. Famous for the spectacular Corpus Domini flower festival.
A Cistercian abbey founded in 1136 in the municipality of Alseno, just 6.7 km from the Podere. The abbey is one of the best-preserved Cistercian complexes in northern Italy, with a magnificent Gothic cloister that has survived almost intact for nearly nine centuries. The Romanesque-Gothic basilica is austere and beautiful, with the clean lines typical of Cistercian architecture. The monks' community is still active and produces liqueurs and herbal products that can be purchased at the distillery.
The highlight of the year is the Infiorata del Corpus Domini (late May or June), when the entire cloister floor is covered with elaborate flower designs. The abbey is free to visit and open daily. A quiet, contemplative place that rewards a 30-minute stop.
