Taverna al Castello (Vigoleno)

Taverna al Castello (Vigoleno)

Rustic trattoria with old-world flavors in the heart of Vigoleno village.

A rustic taverna inside the walls of Vigoleno castle, in the courtyard of one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. Run by the same family since 1969, it's the kind of place where you eat surrounded by medieval stone walls with views of the Stirone valley from the upper dining room. In winter, a fireplace adds atmosphere.

The kitchen serves seasonal, territory-based cooking: pisarei e fasö, tagliolini all'ortica (nettle), frittata di funghi porcini, asinella stufata (stewed donkey), cinghiale con polenta (wild boar with polenta), and bocconcini ai funghi. The cured meats include local production served with giardiniera. Among the wines, look for the Vin Santo di Vigoleno — the smallest DOC in Italy. Desserts are homemade: semifreddi and crostate.

Three dining rooms with about 50 seats total, plus a bar area. The position is unique — you're literally eating inside the castle. The restaurant also serves as a bar during the day. Prices are honest for the location. Free parking just outside the village walls (100 m).

Indicative price: around €25 per person. Closed Tuesdays. Reservation recommended, especially at weekends and in summer.
