G. Cortesi Geological Museum (Castell'Arquato)
Fossils of whales and shells from when these hills were a tropical seabed. A small, captivating museum — perfect paired with a walk along the Stirone.
A small but fascinating museum in the centre of Castell'Arquato, dedicated to the marine fossils of the Piacenziano geological era. The collection includes whale bones, shells, corals and fish fossils found in the surrounding hills — evidence of the time when this area was submerged under a tropical sea. The museum is twinned with the Solnhofen fossil museum in Germany. It's a great complement to a walk along the Stirone river, where you can see similar fossils in their natural setting. Small entrance fee. Allow 30–45 minutes.
