Veleia Romana – Archaeological Area
Evocative Roman archaeological site in the Piacenza hills: forum, basilica and thermal baths from a city that thrived two thousand years ago.
An important Roman archaeological site in the Piacenza hills, about 40 minutes from the Podere. Veleia was a Roman municipium that thrived between the 1st century BC and the 3rd century AD. The excavations reveal the forum, the basilica, thermal baths, and residential areas. The site is famous for the Tabula Alimentaria Traiana — a large bronze inscription recording a social welfare programme under Emperor Trajan, now in the Parma Archaeological Museum. An evocative place, especially on a quiet weekday. Educational activities for children are sometimes available. Check opening times on the website.
